Basic glossary

Pixel: picture element,size of several µm, contiguous or not

Pitch: interpixel distance, varies according to the sensor format

Format: line, interline, field, frame, full frame

Spatial resolution: linked to the number and size of pixels

Temporal resolution: linked to the acquisition frequency (fr) per second

Sensitivity resolution: linked to the semiconductor and the digitization in greyscale

Binning: pixel gathering

Transfer rate (in pix/s, or in octets/s): depends on the resolution and transfer rate format of one pixel

Sensitivity: linked to the amount of light and its color, according to the semiconductor, kind of doping and covering

Noise: any signal that does not take part in the electrical transcription of the image wanted
