Module : | Interference and diffraction |
Author(s) : | - |
Date of creation : | 10/11/2010 |
Resume: | The module approaches the principle of interferences based on notions related to wave propagation. It presents the formation of interferences from both plane waves and spherical waves. This module also introduces the concepts of the temporal and spatial coherence of light. The case studies focus on the interferences obtained using a Young's slits device with either monochromatic or white light. The exercises test all of the concepts featured in the module. |

Date of creation : | 10/11/2010 |
Resume: | This course describes and analyses the interferometric systems based on the amplitude-splitting and the wavefront-splitting. The case study tackles different aspects that can be applied to interferometers: optical system control by Twyman-Green interferometry, spectroscopy by Fourier transform, spectrometry by confocal scanning Fabry-Perot. The exercise part deals with the principle of a laser Doppler velocimeter. |

Resume: | The main objective of the chapter is to define Fractional Fourier Transforms so as to access to a so-called fractional domain between the spatial and the spatial-frequency domains through mere operators which are closely linked to time-frequency distributions. Finally, a digital way is offered to calculate the result of this operation. |

Resume: | The course is about holographic principle from notions linked to diffraction and interferences. The formation of images is analysed for analogical and digital holography. Digital holograms reconstruction is tackled by introducing the different reconstruction strategies. The case study is about the digital holograms realization and the exercises part gets onto combining holographic relationships. |

Resume: | The lesson presents the methods of holographic, analogic and numerical interferometry. Sensibility notions, real time, intermediate time, stroboscopic measure are presented are presented and illustrated by concrete examples. Theoretical aspects proper to each method are also detailed. The case study gets onto the study of a cantilever beam by analogical holography. |
